AND FINALLY….
Surprisingly, this week’s most insightful debate centred on the decline of the ‘humble bumble’ as Europe’s bee population nose-dives into the windscreen of modern farming.
Leaving aside the atrocious puns – the Deputy Speaker (David McClarty, UUP, East Londonderry) referenced the “Buzzness Committee” and Willie Clarke (Sinn Fein, South Down) was surprised to find himself supporting the “bee men” – the debate revealed that Lord Browne (DUP, East Belfast) is something of an expert on the sex life of bees (he’s a zoologist by trade) and offered a possible explanation for Jim Shannon’s (DUP, Strangford) penchant for shooting up the countryside.
It appears that Mr. Shannon spent his childhood holidays in Strabane and Clady. No disrespect to the good folk of West Tyrone, but if I’d spent my holidays there with my close relatives, I’d probably have a developed a few pent up feelings too which firing off a double-barrelled shotgun would help….
